10 Doctor Who Actors You Won't Recognise Out Of Costume

8. Adjoa Andoh

It looks like the cat is well and truly out of the bag with this one! Adjoa Andoh was introduced alongside Freema Agyeman in Series 3 as Martha Jones' mum Francine who proved just how protective she could be when it was revealed that she had been in secret cahoots with Harold Saxon in order to ensure her daughter's safety. Unfortunately for her, though, Harold Saxon was actually the Master in disguise who subsequently imprisoned and tortured Francine and her family for an entire year, but you can't blame a mother for trying. Interestingly, thought, this wasn't Adjoa's first contribution to the Whoniverse. Back in the Series 2 premiere, New Earth, she was seen throwing a different sort of cat among the pigeons when she guest starred as Sister Jatt, a sinister Sister of Plenitude, who was secretly harbouring her own species of cloned humans who had been infected with every disease known to man. Because why the hell not? You certainly wouldn't want to meet this cat in an a dark alley but it's worth pointing out that Francine actually slapped the Tenth Doctor in the face at one point, so perhaps the clawed one isn't who you should be weary of after all. 'Meow' indeed.
