10 Doctor Who Companions Who Were Better Than Their Doctors

By Luke Williams /

2. Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding)

Despite her desperate attempts to leave, Tegan was present for almost the entire Fifth Doctor€™s run. Just as well, really, since she was one of the better parts of it. In fact, she was almost too good a part, since she shouted her way through it to the point where in most scenes it feels like she's about to come flying through the screen. At this point, the Doctor was a peaceful, cricket loving sort of fellow and as such was completely unequipped to handle her, so much so that he ultimately had most of their scenes together ripped out of his hands. She also holds the distinction of meeting six Doctors and, while she almost outshone the First in The Five Doctors in terms of no-nonsense-ness, she did manage to steal the limelight from the Sixth Doctor in the special 'A Fix With Sontarans'. The screaming pitches in that have literally been known to shatter TV screens. They chew so much scenery that even the infinite dimensions of the TARDIS aren€™t enough. Seriously. You'd best turn down your volume for this one.
