10 Doctor Who Guest Stars Who Came Back In Bigger Roles

6. Eve Myles

Since Eve Myles first appeared in Doctor Who she's been defending the planet against alien adversaries as Gwen Cooper in Torchwood where it's safe to say she's been given a lot more screen time. A lot, lot more. Her debut in the Whoniverse was a much more humble affair, though, as she took on the role of Gwyneth, a psychic - just 'cause! - maid who was orphaned as a child and taken in by undertaker Mr Sneed (believe it not but there are far worse places to grow up, and at least she got a job out of it!). This episode - which is 2005's Series 1 Dickensian classic The Unquiet Dead, if you didn't already know - the actress was given her first spin at saving the world but her heroism was to be met with far less glory than the fanfare that would be enjoyed by her future spin off alias. In fact, nobody evens knows about Gwnyeth's noble sacrifice - apart from the show's central characters and the millions of viewers watching at home, of course - which makes the story of this sweet and simple servant girl all the more tragic. Eve has more than made up for it, though, as since 2006 she's been fighting off a foray of formidable foes in not one, not two, not three but four series of Torchwood, although the least said about its last series, the better. Her portrayal of Gwen Cooper tends to even steal the spotlight from the show's intended protagonist, Captain Jack Harkness, himself which is no mean feat when John Barrowman is concerned. Oh, and don't worry if you think 'Gwyneth' and 'Gwen' sound far too familiar because the resemblance was intentional. Russell T Davies specifically wrote the part of Gwen Cooper for Eve Myles after her short but sweet stint in Doctor Who and the characters were eventually linked on screen when it was revealed in passing that Gwen's family date back to Cardiff in the 1800s, much to the delight of the Doctor and Rose. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?
