John Barrowman has become such a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with that it's hard to imagine a time when he wasn't popping up on your telly box at any given opportunity. His portrayal of everybody's favourite omnisexual Earth defender, Captain Jack Harkness, in Doctor Who and its subsequent spin off, Torchwood, has made him an honorary hero around the world but he was already making a name for himself across the pond before he ventured into the coveted realms of British television. Back in 1995, he starred in the prime time soap opera Central Park West which, as its title would suggest, followed the glamorous and exciting New York City lives of the staff of a trendy magazine called Communique. John completed the ensemble as Peter Fairchild but the series was panned by critics and was eventually cancelled a year later. You win some, you lose some.
