10 Female Actors Who Would Have Been A Better Doctor Who
10. Naomi Watts
While we have tried to look at realistic options here rather than just the best female talent, Watts' recent travails on to the small screen has her name high on our list. Like most Australian actors she has little trouble pulling off an accent, and if it was good enough for 007 to be played by an Aussie, why not The Doctor?
Watts has a wonderful acting range with a variety of characterisations realised in her Hollywood career, but it's her work alongside a CGI ape that shows off how well she could do this role. Watts gave a career best performance in Peter Jackson's King Kong, her ability to create a distinct connection with the ape profound throughout the film.
Considering just how much acting to a green screen is used in Doctor Who, her Kong effort is a superb audition in itself. Top this off with her ability to react to monsters that aren't actually there, and she just seems a perfect fit.
