10 Greatest Fleet Arrivals In Star Trek

9. The Standoff - Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2

When Starfleet faces off against Starfleet, it always brings chills to any scene. While technically the ships of Section 31's fleet were under Control's, well, control, they are still Starfleet vessels (to a point). Seeing so many ships, between starships and support craft, prepare for battle was a formidable moment in this second season of Star Trek: Discovery.

Pike, in command of the Enterprise, and Saru, in command of the Discovery, prepare their vessels for this ultimate battle against the A.I. who just wants to be a real boy, while Burnham prepares to zoom into the future. The scenes are examples of controlled chaos, with more arrivals than we were expecting.

Discovery and Enterprise sit side-by-side, deploying their armada of shuttles, drones, and retrofitted ships. Meanwhile, Control's fleet looks to be outnumbered - until the Artist Formerly Known As Leland instructs them to count again. From those starships, hundreds of smaller attack ships disentangle themselves, taking up an offensive position, ready to cripple the hopes and dreams of those Starfleet officers before.

While the arrival of the Klingons and the Kelpians later in the battle is a huge moment in itself (not least in that enormous Klingon Cleave Ships literally carving a path through Section 31), it is that initial moment of the Starfleet-designed ships facing off against each other. From a meta-standpoint, Discovery had a lot to prove in its first and second seasons, with the arrival of the Enterprise serving as a gamble.

In Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2, the Discovery more than holds her own, the emotional stakes are at their highest, and the show fully earns its place in Star Trek history and lore.
