The first good story for the brand new 5th Doctor, Kinda revolves around the gorgeous, peaceful jungle planet Deva Loka, inhabited by the gorgeous, peaceful telepathic Kinda. You would be correct in thinking that none of these things remain gorgeous and peaceful for very long. Deva Loka is being explored by a colonisation survey team from Earth, one of whom goes crazy and decides that the natives and/or the plant life in the jungles are trying to kill them. Tegan, one of the Doctors companions, is also possessed by a demonic force called The Mara. Its essentially The Exorcist meets Avatar, but much better than that sounds. Incorporating elements of Buddhist philosophy and Jungian theories of the collective unconscious, it must have freaked the pants off the kids watching it back in 1982, which is exactly as it should be.
