10 Insane TV Twists That Ruined Their Shows
4. Riverdale
Credit where it's due: The CW's "Archie Comics, but make it dark, gritty, and sexy" series Riverdale can't be faulted in its ambitious attempts to fit as many plot twists as humanly possible into a single series.
And some of them work, in their own campy, sort-of-silly way!
But hard as it may be to believe when the show's last series featured an organ harvesting cult, a killer game of Dungeons and Dragons, drugs disguised as popping candy, and a masked serial killer, there was a time when this small town series was actually a reasonably grounded slice of whodunit mystery.
The first season detailed the murder of Jason Blossom and provided some surprisingly effective, clever twisty plotting. Then came the reveal that Jason and his forbidden love (whom he impregnated) Polly were first cousins, and soon the show was forced to take on a goofier, even more over-the-top tone to account for... well, for the whole "incest baby" twist. Hard to come back from that, really.
