Introducing us to future stars such as Blake Lively and You's Penn Badgley, Gossip Girl was a glossy, over-the-top adaptation of the salacious young adult book series of the same name by Cecily Von Ziegesar which debuted in the late noughties.

Intentionally silly and melodramatic, the show's campy twists largely coasted along thanks to the charms of its young cast including series standouts Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick as the "love to hate them" couple Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass.

But the eventual reveal that unassuming dead weight Dan and his wet blanket sister Jenny were somehow responsible for the eponymous gossip blog, despite said site having outed them as the cause of various scandals on numerous occasions, made less than no sense and left fans furious.

Come on, Gossip Girl. You had one job!
