The Problem The Martha subplot. As soon as Jenny is introduced and we get into the meat of the episode, Martha is thrown out of the loop on a completely inconsequential quest of her own that has very little impact on the story. She doesnt even get much to do within her own subplot since, other than her relocating a Hath soldiers dislocated shoulder, the entire plot is walking from one point to another. How To Fix It Either cut Martha from the episode altogether or keep her with the Doctor. The group of the Doctor, Donna, Martha, and Jenny would be a little crowded (especially in the quieter dialogue-heavy scenes) but even that would be better than taking time away from the interplay between the Doctor and Jenny for scenes where Martha is the only character with intelligible dialogue. Though Martha could easily serve a purpose if she was attached to the main plot since she works for UNIT and (despite being a doctor) has experience of military action. Therefore she could not only be a useful character for Jenny to interact with but also to point out the Doctors double standard of getting her a job with UNIT while rejecting Jenny for being a soldier.
