8. The Effects Of The Androids' Guns - Earthshock (1982)
It's rather amazing that, with all the gross stuff on the Internet, there's not a single image that we could find for this next entry. That's probably just as well, since it's...well, ick. Seriously. Ick. We would all agree that the most horrifying thing about Cybermen is how you become one (as we'll soon talk about), but in 1982, Doctor Who showed us that Cybermen were capable of doing something just as awful but a bit more final, shall we say. Or rather, their androids were. The androids that the Cybermen use to plant their planet-cracking bomb on Earth have a particularly nasty weapon. It doesn't just kill you. It melts you. It reduces you to a revolting puddle of blood, superheated viscera, and pus on the ground. And what's worse, it's by no means instantaneous - judging from the first such death we overhear, there's enough time to scream in terror and pain as your entire body liquifies before your eyes, until they're liquified as well. By then, we hope - we hope - that you won't still be around to feel it. Far be it from us to ever agree with the late Mary Whitehouse, but yeah - that was a bit much. (We also considered putting the effects of the Daleks' gas in Resurrection of the Daleks on this list, by the way - it's definitely at the same level of gross out, and the camera lingers just as lovingly on the bodies of those victims as it does on these. But this is way squickier.)
