10 Most Underrated Deaths In Game Of Thrones
8. Robert Baratheon
King Robert was a very grey character. Though he had an unhealthy appetite for women and wine, he was actually a relatively good king compared with some of his successors.
His death, therefore, was neither sad nor satisfying. What made it memorable, however, was the dialogue between Robert and Eddard. Despite their many disagreements earlier on in the season, Robert acknowledged Eddard’s honourability during their final conversation.
He also asked Eddard to make Joffrey a better man than he had been. With such a request, Robert was revealing a genuine concern for the future of the Seven Kingdoms, as well as the fact that he was more than aware of his own shortcomings.
In this sense, what made Robert’s death scene effective was his unwavering honesty in regard to how he felt about himself and his reign.
