Show: Cheers The ultimate "will they or won't they" couple. Sam and Diane (Ted Danson and Shelly Long) on Cheers spent several seasons torturing each other, squabbling, and generally making each other miserable while still being in love (or at least in a sexual relationship). When Long left the show, Kristie Alley's Rebecca was seen by many to be a more suitable partner - but the fireworks were what really made Sam and Diane memorable. Diane returned for the show's finale, and in the end, the couple, after almost running off together, have a moment of catharsis and realize they're better off as friends - but that doesn't exclude them from being amongst the most memorable couples on television.
