Show: The X-Files They were platonic partners for years on the paranormal procedural, but Fox Mulder and Dana Scully eventually moved towards romance - and fans were torn on whether or not they should get together. In fact, it even spawned a term still used by television fans today: "ship" - short for relationship, which latter evolved into "shipping". To "ship" a pairing is to be a proponent for that relationship, as in "I ship Buffy and Spike." The term originates from "shippers" and "no-romos" (fans not into the idea of a Mulder and Scully romance) amongst fans of the series while it was struggling with the "will they or won't they" question. In the end, Mulder and Scully do get together, so the shippers won out, but it was never blatant and always remained in the background. They were still together in the most recent X-Files movie, 2008's I Want to Believe.
