One of the more contemporary predictions put forward by Doctor Who happened in the recently wrapped eighth season of the revived show, the first starring Peter Capaldi as the titular Time Lords twelfth regeneration. One of the highlights of an otherwise patchy series was Kill The Moon, where The Doctor drags companion Clara and one of her students to the Moon in the mid-21st century (2049, to be precise), when the Earth has been ravaged by climate change - just become its used in a sci-fi show doesn't mean it doesnt exist, deniers - and space isnt looking all that much safer, to be honest. Even in the present day, the Moon is a mysterious thing. Whilst NASA have sent countless Apollo missions up to make increasingly small steps for man, and shrinking leaps for mankind, its been decades since anybodys bothered to go up there. And there still remains a lot of unanswered questions about the nature of the great rocky satellite, so whos to say its actually an egg thats populated by a load of terrifying huge space spiders which is due to hatch and release a giant dragon that will fly majestically throughout our solar system? Thatd certainly help get people interested in space travel again. Interstellar and Gravity just appear to have put people off.
