If the very existence of the multiverse is at stake, there simply has to be some consequences to that all-encompassing, all-powerful threat. And what better way to drill home the point that major consequences exist, than by killing off the character who started this shared world of heroes.

In previous crossover events or larger story arcs, the Arrowverse has often killed off supporting players or heroes from alternative Earths. With a threat as ominous as The Anti-Monitor and the potential wiping out of the entire multiverse, there can be no punches pulled when it comes to the severity of this situation and the huge costs that have to be paid to avert disaster.

No longer can an Arrowverse crossover get by without killing off one of this shared TV world's top, top players. For better or for worse for Arrow fans, there are no names as big as the Green Arrow. As such, the death of Oliver Queen is needed in order to really strike a chord that there are some very real, very tragic consequences to threats like The Anti-Monitor and his crazed plan.
