3. The Show Is Effectively Banned In China

The Doctor is a legend woven throughout history. He brings a storm in his wake and he has only one constant companion... Controversy. And the show has proved to be so controversial in China that the government has even gone as far as to ban it from being broadcast on mainstream television in case its audience actually believe its time-altering storylines. Seriously. And this isn't the only case of the Time Lord having to fight off the formidable force that is TV regulation standards. In recent years, our hero has hit the tabloids - and for all the wrong reasons - for his encounter with Adolf Hitler in Series 6, Amy Pond's promiscuity and, most recently, that kiss between Madame Vastra and Jenny Flint in last year's Series 8 premiere Deep Breath. OK, so it wasn't really a kiss (it was an oxygen transfer, people!) but the world just isn't ready for girl on lizard action, apparently, because the BBC received over 100 complaints and the scene was subsequently cut from Hong Kong, South Korea and Indonesia to ensure the episode didn't fall foul of the region€™s strict decency standards. In that case, they'd better stay away from the fan fiction, too. Talk about tip of the iceberg...
