An alien master criminal that had managed to evade execution by its people by transformation into an electrical energy form, The Wire materialised in €˜The Idiot€™s Lantern€™, halfway through season two of the rebooted show. What made The Wire stand head and shoulders above every other mysterious energy being on the show was that, having escaped to Earth, it lived via television signals, bouncing from set to set and communicating with the populace through appearing on telly as a €˜talking head€™ female continuity announcer with an eerie resemblance to British television€™s favourite grandmother, Maureen Lipman.The Wire€™s plan to steal the minds of enough humans to generate a new corporeal form is ruined when the 10th Doctor records her onto an old Betamax video cassette, which he decides it€™s best to simply tape over to remove her threat once and for all. Of course, we never actually see him do it€
