As mentioned previously and repeatedly throughout this article, Planet of the Dead presented an unsatisfactory plot, aesthetically displeasing CGI and an annoying one-off companion who predictably succumbed to the Doctors charm. This episode originally had the potential to redeem its already-doomed script, however. Rough drafts of the special were purportedly considering ideas such as a space opera, a desolated hotel overrun by time-freezing centaurs, a Star Trek parody, or an interstellar hotel in which guests were mysteriously disappearing. Imagining the Tenth Doctor in these venues is definitely appealing. Picture him coolly striding into a 1930s-inspired, ostentatious hotel dining room with crystal chandeliers glittering from an ornate ceiling, and muffled jazz music pervading in the background it's Dixon Hill style. Perhaps Planet of the Dead sounded just as intriguing prior to its finalization, but thats highly unlikely, if not impossible.
