A stingy Victorian madwoman recruits the Cybermen in order to be "liberated" from the anger and torment that shadows her mind. She's not the only one suffering, though. The Doctor, now alone and despondent, grieves the fact that - although Davros was defeated, his friends survived, and Rose is content in her parallel universe - it was all a superficial victory, for, in the end, he still lost everything. It is a mawkish and hopelessly dismal moment as the Doctor mechanically pushes the buttons on the TARDIS console while staring at some nonexistent point in space, on the verge of tears. Although it might have contributed to a less melodramatic feel and reminded the audience that the Tenth Doctor doesn't just specialize in sulking, a pair of Cybermen comically flanking the Doctor could have easily destroyed the poignant atmosphere established throughout Journey's End. The way the Cyberman rise out of nowhere abruptly and simultaneously is just so ridiculous. What were they doing that entire time, squatting beneath the console? (Also, the Doctors hair, in this version, is miraculously dry after standing in the rain for five minutes straight. There goes another opportunity to criticise insignificant details simply to perturb the writers (*sigh of disappointment*).
