10 Upcoming TV Show Reboots (And Their Chances Of Survival)
2. Roseanne
The Original: Roseanne was a juggernaut of a groundbreaking show when it was on the air from 1988-1997. While the majority of family network sitcoms often played it safe with their storylines, Roseanne dared to break the mold. The show aimed not for polite set-up, punchline jokes, but humor based on real problems that middle-class families could relate to. While it lost some steam in its later seasons, the unapologetic title character played by Roseanne Barr, paired with actor John Goodman’s portrayal of Dan Connor, made it a favorite with both audiences and critics.
The Reboot: New episodes of the show are slated to return in March and while the show will look a little different, much of it will be the same. Fans might remember that in the final episode of the original run, the dad of the Connor family, Dan, died. He’s not dead anymore. Yep, John Goodman is returning along with the rest of the cast. The show will also be getting a few new faces as Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and David (Johnny Galecki) have two children, one of whom is “gender creative.”
Chance Of Survival: This one is really a 50/50 toss up. Life for most working-class families certainly hasn’t gotten any easier 30 years later and it’s been reported that the show won’t shy away from poking fun at the current political climate. If the show can capture some of the lightning in a bottle magic that it had in his first few seasons, Roseanne could be a two-time hit.
