10 Upcoming TV Show Reboots (And Their Chances Of Survival)

3. Murphy Brown

The Original: From 1988-1998, Murphy Brown, the show about a hard-nosed TV journalist and single mother was a huge hit with both audiences and critics. The sitcom starring Candice Bergen picked up a staggering 18 Emmy awards over its decade-long run and delivered a strong message to women that being a good mother with a successful career was possible.

The Reboot: The good news is that both Candice Bergen and creator Diane English are both on board for the revival. English had previously left the show after season four. Unfortunately, the new order of 13 episodes will have a void with the absence of Robert Pastorelli who portrayed Murphy’s live-in manny, Eldin. Pastorelli passed away from a drug overdose in 2004.

Chance Of Survival: Some shows go on to air in syndication for decades after their original run (Seinfeld, The Andy Griffith Show) and others seem to get little to no rerun love. While Murphy Brown had a successful and long original run, it’s largely faded from the pop culture spectrum. Reclaiming its old audience could be difficult.
