Then again, the prequel thing does remain tantalising. Continuing the Marvel analogy, whilst Agents Of SHIELD runs alongside the movies and is unsatisfying because it can never quite recreate their bluster/star power, their other spin-off TV show has started off a lot stronger. That's because Agent Carter stars a beloved character and great actor, but also because it's a prequel, so they're more forgiving to the lower budgets. And to the fact that, when they do tie in to familiar story arcs or characters, it's in a way that enriches them further, instead of struggling to keep up. So perhaps a prequel is the best way to go; maybe not going quite as far back as Enterprise, because if that show told us anything, it's that people want pretty spaceships and uniforms. But whether they go for the series or new movie continuity, a prequel that's simply a few years prior to the start of their respective histories on-screen would be neat. That opening of the first Star Trek reboot shows an earlier Federation, but one not all that different to what comes next. Except Thor's in the captain's chair, weirdly.
