10 Ways Your Favourite TV Shows Will Probably End
7. It'll Be Something Totally Ambiguous - The Leftovers
Damon Lindelof knows a thing or two about TV endings. As a co-creator, showrunner, and head writer for Lost, he was responsible for creating one of the most talked-about TV shows of the 21st century - and then ending it in a way that left half the viewership either disappointed or scratching their heads.
Seven years on, he'll have a second chance. The Leftovers shares similarities to Lost in that it's opened up a number of mysteries, and has a huge amount of unanswered questions. However, in terms of pressure and expectations, there's probably a lot less - Lost was a massive show, while Leftovers is definitely a cult one.
Hopefully that'll work in Lindelof's favour, as the series will end with Season 3, set to air next year. Once again the location is expected to shift, this time to Australia, which is theorised to hold the key to many of the mysteries.
But will there be answers? Probably not all that many. We may never truly know what happened to the world, or what its future holds. This is still Lindelof, after all. And he's spoken about the ending being about the characters finding some sort of peace, while being ambiguous. Sounds about right.
Kevin, who has already 'died' on the series, may well be dead again, but in a much more final sense (after all, how can characters truly go on in this world?). Peace could mean moving on. As for ambiguity? Well, we might not truly know what moving on means, and we're probably not gonna have the central mysteries wrapped up - and that's perhaps the way it needs to be.
