10½ Best Male Companions In Doctor Who History
2. Jamie McCrimmon - Frazer Hines
Just as each fan has "My Doctor," that first-experienced incarnation which remains inextricably linked with expectations for the show, so too does each Doctor have a "My Companion." Some gain the status by traveling alongside a Doctor's incarnation for his entire run or nearly so, as with Tegan and the 5th Doctor, Rose and the 9th. Others become a top-level companion through enjoying a long tenure: Think Jo Grant and the 3rd Doctor; for the 4th, one may choose between Sarah Jane, Leela and Romana.
But it could be argued that no Doctor is as firmly associated with a male companion as good old Doctor 2 and Jamie the indomitable Highlander, alongside the Cosmic Hobo from his second story right to the finish. Jamie also goes down as one of the few companions who could truly carry an episode in those days when the lead actors may have needed a break; see the recently-released "Enemy Of The World" for an example.
This alone would earn him a high spot on the list, but we may now include Jamie's romps with the 6th Doctor in Big Finish audios (remember: now Official Doctor Who Canon) as an expansion to his long history.
