12 Sci-Fi TV Shows Let Down By Terrible Endings

2. ALF

The beloved eighties sitcom ALF may seem like an odd inclusion on this list for anyone who recalls the fluffy cat consumer as little more than a harmless Mork and Mindy meets The Muppets mashup/ rip off. After all ALF was, for better or worse, just another family sitcom which wedged an odd alien character into the mix in order to keep a tired formula fresh, 3rd Rock From the Sun style—right?

Indeed the series was, and the show excelled as a bit of harmless light entertainment for the most part—until its infamous closing moments. Now we do need to note that this entry felt jarring with the tone of the show mainly because it was a cheap plot designed to set up a spin-off TV movie.

But nonetheless, the fact remains that ALF ended with the eponymous alien being kidnapped by government agents bent, presumably, on experimenting on the loveable fluffball—or at worst exterminating the extra-terrestrial with extreme prejudice.

Cheery stuff for the show’s huge kid fanbase, that.
