Sheriff Diaz was portrayed as little more than a caricature last season, showing up to intimidate Clay Jensen into confessing to a murder that he didn't commit. This season, however, he received something of an upgrade.

From his concerns over how Deputy Standall closed the Bryce Walker case to his renewed interest in Clay, it looked like he may become a more serious problem this time around, but in a refreshing subversion of our expectations, he was just genuinely concerned about Clay's well-being. And even though he implied that he had figured out what really happened to Bryce, he let sleeping dogs lie because he knew Standall's intentions were noble.
