Most fans generally agree that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s quality skyrocketed in the wake of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. With the organization in disarray and HYDRA exposed, the world of the MCU was upended, taking Coulson and his team with it.

Though he'd appeared as a genuine ally to the team, the HYDRA revelation brought with it a one-two punch about John Garrett: His status as a member of the sinister organization and that he was, in fact, the mysterious Clairvoyant who'd been pulling the strings all season long.

Armed with a decent motivation to hate SHIELD for once leaving him for dead and suffering from the life-threatening residual effects of being the original Deathlok, Garrett ended up even further off the rails after being injected with GH 325. By season's end, Garrett was destroyed for good, but Bill Paxton's great performance is still missed.
