15 British Sitcoms That Americans Loved the Most

7. Black Adder (1982-83)

The series spawned a Part Two, Part Three and Part Four through the ages, but nothing beats the original. It deservedly put Rowan Atkinson on the map as a comedic powerhouse while portraying Prince Edmund the Black Adder, and it certainly didn't hurt that his team of co-stars included Brian Blessed as King Richard the IV, Elspet Gray as the Queen and the indispensable Tony Robinson as the bumbling sidekick Baldrick (who, in one classic turn, endeavors to create a mousetrap with his mouth and a piece of cheese only to be told, "There's no danger of a mouse scurrying in, Baldrick. Your breath is reminiscent of the depths of Satan's bottom"). Classic.
