Oh Missy, you're so fine, you're so fine, you blow our minds, hey Missy! And this moment certainly did blow our minds. And then some. The enigmatic Missy had been popping up all over the shop throughout Series 8 so when the time came for her true identity to finally be unveiled in the series finale, it's safe to say that Doctor Who viewers were well and truly champing at the bit. Nobody could have foreseen what was to come (and even if you did, it still made for one of the most shocking cliffhangers ever) when she revealed that she was actually the Master in a female incarnate. The cat had well and truly been let out of the bag and it was Mary Poppins' evil twin that looked like Michelle Gomez. The mother of all twists. Suffice to say, the revelation sparked one of the biggest responses in Doctor Who history. Everyone had something to say about the Master's shock sex change and not all of it was positive, either. It even managed to reach the realms of mainstream media which just goes to show how much of an impact it made. It's the sort of twist that nobody saw coming despite the fact everyone had already guessed it. It's probably because viewers couldn't quite believe what they were seeing. The Master's return as a woman had already been widely preempted but perhaps there was part of us that never accepted it would actually happen. Well, guess what? It did happen and Missy will return to Doctor Who in Series 9 later this year so it looks like her malevolent foray into madness is only just beginning. Did she mention... "bananas"!?
