15 Times Rick And Morty Was The Best Show On Television

5. Evil Rick And Evil Morty

All throughout the season it's been pretty clear how messed up the dynamic between Rick and Morty is, and Close Encounters of the Rick Kind explores that even further, attempting to answer the question of what either one even gets out of the relationship.

Initially, the answer is that Morty is a "camouflage," meaning that Rick is so smart that standing next to someone as dumb as Morty makes him impossible for enemies to detect. At first that's really upsetting for Morty to hear, but it soon becomes clear that despite this, Rick really does care about his grandson, tearing up when seeing images of him appear on screen. Their bond is something special because throughout all the different universes that exist in the show, Rick and Morty are always together, and there's something really sweet about that.

But then the episode ends with the awesome, unexpected twist that the evil Rick was actually being controlled by an evil Morty, who carried out the entire plan and is presumably bitter towards Ricks. That's almost certainly something that will come back in Season 2, so stay tuned.
