Director Michael Hayes contributed to Doctor Who in the 1970s by helming 14 episodes which consisted of the Fourth Doctor's adventures The Androids Of Tara, The Armageddon Factor and City of Death. He was initially reluctant to work on the series, assuming it was nothing more than "a children's show with dodgy effects", but he soon abandoned the misgivings and after his experiences on set he remained close friends with the show's then titular Time Lord Tom Baker. He passed away on 16th September.
