7 Reasons Why I Am Not Okay With This Season 2 Must Happen
Netflix cancelled I Am Not Okay way too soon. Here's why Season 2 must happen.
When I Am Not Okay With This lost its second season order, it's fair to say that quite a few people were disappointed.
The show in just one season had built a core base of fans that were excited to see what was next in-store for Sydney Novak after she killed Brad accidentally. The mystery surrounding her new-found powers and where that was going to lead her was genuinely intriguing to see and many sat back after the cliffhanger conclusion of the first season, just waiting for Netflix to drop the next instalment.
Few series have ever managed to capture the essence of teen angst and rage, with the backdrop of superpowers and confusion over sexuality at the same time. However, I Am Not Okay With This had a near-perfect blend of these issues and was funny to boot.
Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff played off one-another brilliantly and when combined with Sofia Bryant's Dina, the trio had something special going between them, something that could have evolved into more as seasons went by.
Sydney's journey was cut short at Netflix and a second series looks unlikely. However, it isn't impossible. Here are seven reasons why I Am Not Okay With This deserves another chance and should be brought back.
7. It Had A Really Captivating Future
The cliffhanger at the end of the series was one that made for a great set-up to season 2. However, the cancellation of the show now means it is doomed to stay finalised at that moment.
The show had a brilliant first season but much like Breaking Bad before it, it felt like the best was yet to come. The building blocks were now all in place and the characters had the pull to really be explored in further depth, our setting was ready for an expansion of both cast and scope. The show could have taken us anywhere, with Sydney's powers it really was a world's the limit type situation.
It could have been sitting her in a cave for 10 years where she honed her powers or cut short her lessons to fight a greater evil. The point is that wherever the show was going to take us, it had real potential.
The first season was a jumping-off point, the calm before the storm, and so many were just waiting for the said metaphorical storm to arise in the next season.
It will remain, unless brought back by someone, a work of greatness - neutered by external factors.
