8 Times Doctor Who Did Its Bit For Charity

Fundraising through time and space.

By Dan Butler /

Today, Friday 13th March, is Red Nose Day in the UK which means that the nation will all be doing their bit to change the lives of millions of disadvantaged people living both at home and across Africa. The good Doctor himself is never one to miss out on a party but this year he has unfortunately been omitted from the proceedings (in his defence, though, he is busy filming the next series!). Still, Doctor Who has a long history of going out of its way to contribute to charity and usually the show's offerings come in the guise of an exclusive mini-episode or lighthearted sketch. To celebrate the return of Comic Relief, here are 8 times that charities such as Children in Need and Red Nose Day joined forces with TV's favourite Time Lord to raise lots of money for great causes. Over the years, the Doctor has been played by Mr Bean, hosted tea parties in the TARDIS, got naked (seriously) and even defied the realms of TV genres by coming face to face with the cast of Albert Square in EastEnders, and all in the name of charity. Here are some of the highlights of his fundraising festivities to date, and long may they continue.
