While the smaller character appearances from elsewhere in the Marvel canon were a success, the same cannot be said of its big movie tie-in this year. Connecting to The Winter Soldier in season 1 was a turning point for the show, the time when it started to get really interesting and feel like you were watching something Marvel, as opposed to just a generic show about secret agents. The film it was a part of this year was even bigger, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, but it certainly wasnt better. The mention that it was Coulson responsible for the Theta Protocol and the helicarrier that saved the Avengers towards the end of the movie was a nice moment for any fans of the film wondering how that happened, but ultimately felt like a forced moment and one that didnt really serve any purpose for the show.
