The twist that Grant Ward was working for Hydra was a fantastic moment in the first season, but with him locked away it did raise the question of how much he would feature this time around. It started off with the possibility of a redemption arc, but then twisted that again to show his more villainous side, and he constantly straddled the line between the two. He did bad things, but then seemed to regret them, would appear well-intentioned, but then do more bad things. Although he was in and out of the story, he was fascinating to watch whenever he was on screen, because you never knew quite what direction he was going to go in, which worked better than a straightforward redemption. The season finale sees him torture Bobbi, and sets him up as the leader of the tattered remains of Hydra, meaning that next year we should hopefully get a whole lot more of Ward as a villain.
