Back in the beginnings of Buffy's first season, Jesse McNally was introduced alongside Willow and Xander as a member of the group Buffy falls in with. Xander's best friend, he was funny, awkward and set to be a pretty important character.

But this is Buffy we're talking about. Wanting to make a statement about how no one was safe on the show, Joss Whedon had Jesse turned into a vampire and staked by Xander in only the second episode, letting audiences know just how daring the show was going to be.

It's just a shame Jesse was never mentioned again after his death, lessening his death's impact almost as soon as it happened.
