Doctor Who: 10 Ways They Could Screw Up The Peter Capaldi Era

5. Turn Another Villain Into A Comedy Character

Doctor Who has built up an impressive roster of villains over the years, but one race of aliens went from being a vicious group of cloned soldiers to comedy characters within the span of an episode. During "A Good Man Goes to War" we saw Strax, a Sontaran clone soldier, portray a bumbling sidekick to The Doctor, effectively killing any kind of intimidation factor the aliens had before. While there were a lot of laughs to be had at Strax's expense ("Doctor, help! I think I've been run over by a cab."), this is one thing the writers should avoid in the new season. The potato-headed alien could always return to help The Doctor, but turning any other villain into a pal would be a mistake. One of the greatest things about this show is the villains, but they have to maintain a certain level of scariness in order to be effective. The Sontarans were once a great enemy of The Doctor, but now they are little more than an excuse for some humor. After all, we don't want to see a pet Dalek or another Cyberman turned into a talking head.
