Oh how I wish I could place this episode near the top; part of me is trying to hold back from putting it this low down but I have to. Don't get me wrong, I like the episode but this has the same case of poor actors as Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS did. Those darn kids... Warwick Davis is brilliant, Matt Smith is at the top of his game as usual but it really says something when two characters have been cyberized they are more tolerant than when normal. Having said that, the central theme of the chess game between the Doctor and Mr Clever is brilliant, with Smith really selling the performance. Perhaps if this hadn't been marketed as purely a Cyberman episode people would have been less disappointed, but then Neil Gaiman was bound to do something different. The new Cybermen are actually a threat, they blow up a planet just to get rid of them, but there's something about that resolution that was a bit too easy. Perhaps if the episode had more time to explore the Emperors inner conflict it might have been more satisfying.
