One of the principle factors that New Who has revolved around is that companions have to cut their ties with their friends and family to travel with the Doctor. Amy Pond and Rory broke that little rule, and thank God another Doctor/companion fiddle-faddle would have wrecked fandom for all time. And, in fairness, Matt Smiths 11th Doctor was such a dunce with friendships and relationships that he and Amy doing the will-they-wont-they would have been a catastrophe. Now, episode two of the eighth season sees the introduction of one Danny Pink, a maths teacher at Coal Hill School alongside Clara. They clearly have chemistry, despite his abysmal social skills, and the events of fourth episode Listen and fifth episode Time Heist indicate that their fledgling relationship has decent legs but thats not all. Listen gives us two additional Pinks to play with Rupert, Dannys younger self, and Orson, his potentially great-grandson. Rupert meets Clara before she even gets a chance to make right their colossally bad first date, while Orson figures out pretty quickly that shes actually his great-grandmother, and thereby so does she, and so do we. Thats a fairly impressive track record for a woman who, at the time, hadnt even managed to kiss the guy. Well be seeing a lot more of Mr. Pink, and a good thing too.
