Rose, before I go, I just want to tell you. You were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I.
It seems harsh to suggest that an actor's best moment was when they were leaving the show but it's more the build-up that makes this moment so good. There is a definite feel of finality, created primarily by Eccleston's body language and the way he pitches his lines, but it's less overblown that the other New Series regenerations and is all the better for it - a sense of over the top epicness really wouldn't suit here. Instead, fans see Nine approach his end with dignity and acceptance, reassuring Rose and the viewers that while this is an end, it's not the end, and the story has a long way to go yet. As is fitting for his final moments on the show, Eccleston is playing it perfectly. He creates the idea that his Doctor is not totally unhappy to be regenerating, to be leaving a form that has seen so much grief and angst. While he's not totally happy about it either, there's a real sense of relief to be leaving this post-Time War incarnation and a sense that the character views this as a fresh start. More importantly, the final speech showcases everything viewers love about the Ninth Doctor. There are heaps of charm, bursts of energy and dashes of gravitas. And his last words are completely fitting. Because he was really rather fantastic. What did you think of this list? Are there any other Ninth Doctor moments that should've been included?
