Doctor Who: 10 Best NuWho Episodes

By Dan Butler /

1. Blink

Or Don't Blink, which would've probably been a more appropriate title. You'd no doubt already guessed that this would take the top spot on our definite countdown of NuWho's best episodes and it's almost impossible to find a Doctor Who fan who doesn't agree that this is one of the revived show's greatest offerings to date. As predictable as its crowning glory is, it's unequivocally deserved. Another Steven Moffat classic, and the recipient of a Welsh BAFTA, the Series 3 escapade introduced the nation to the terrifying Weeping Angels and this initial outing was all they needed to establish themselves as one of the franchise's most formidable foes. It wasn't hindered by the fact that it was a Doctor-lite episode, either (Love & Monsters, we're looking at you...), and the plot is so effortlessly engrossing that you don't even realise that the titular Time Lord is missing from most of the proceedings. Its one off leading lady, Carey Mulligan, deserves a special mention. As Sally Sparrow she is widely cited as one of the best Doctor Who Companions Who Never Was (before that title was given to everyone the Doctor sets his eyes on) and it's a shame that her subsequent Hollywood success - her role in the 2009 coming of age drama An Education landed her a prestigious Oscar nomination for Leading Actress - means that she probably won't be committing to a return any time soon. The same can't be said for the Weeping Angels themselves, of course, who have been popping up all over the show ever since. And Doctor Who fans wouldn't have it any other way.
