Doctor Who: 10 Big Finish Companions Who Deserve To Be On TV

By Terry Warner /

9. Thomas Brewster

In the 1980s, producer John Nathan-Turner conceived new companion Adric as an Artful Dodger urchin type. However, between poor scripts and Matthew Waterhouse's failings as an actor, the character never developed that way. Thankfully, Thomas Brewster shows how that character may have played out, created by the clever Jonathan Morris and brought to life by John Picard. Meeting the Doctor and Nyssa when the time travellers were in Victorian London, Thomas was one of two Big Finish companions who went on to steal the TARDIS. He went off and had a series of adventures pretending to be the Doctor. If only Adric had done that! Leaving the Fifth Doctor, Thomas had an adventure with the Brigadier and Polly and later spent time with the Sixth, though he initially threatened the Doctor and Evelyn at gunpoint. He went on to redeem himself, though, by fighting Axons and eventually travelling with an alien trader. One of Big Finish's more interesting ones.
