Doctor Who: 10 Most Cringeworthy Moments Of All Time

By Terry Warner /

3. Peter Kaye's Abzorbaloff

You know there's going to be problems when you let children design the monsters but the decision to cast Peter Kaye as the Abzorbaloff in Series 2's largely unloved Love and Monsters turned a potentially fun idea into a downright embarrassing one. Until Kaye turns up the episode was a clever, if slight, look at Doctor Who fandom. However, once Kaye turns up, any subtlety is lost. Kaye can't really be blamed for the hideous green fat suit and nappy he's forced to wear but does he have to be so Peter Kaye once he's in it? Doctor Who has form with cringeworthy comedian cameos, having Ken Dodd and Hale and Pace turn up in the McCoy years but Kaye's turn is easily the most mortifying. What could have been one of Who's sweeter tales is turned into a bad panto. A shame.
