Humour has always been a vital component of Doctor Who but Big Finish has taken the absurdity of the show to a degree that its screen counterpart has never quite managed. From the premise of a battle robot run by HR staff (who believe theyre working in an office and never quite see how strange the tasks theyre asked to do actually are) to the sheer oddity of the Eighth Doctor running auditions for his next companion (the brilliant Situation Vacant), the audio adventures manage to encapsulate the spirit of Doctor Who whilst puncturing the potential pomposity of a show which features such a morally upright protagonist. Doctor Who has always done satire and oddity, of course, and Big Finish delivers it in bucket loads.
