Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Skip The 9th Doctor

3. The Hilarious (and outright silly) Dialogue

One of the greatest things about series one was the throw-away lines which contained subtle jokes and outrageously silly words. These could easily be missed, but - like a special features easter egg on a boxed set of DVDs - were made all the more enjoyable for it. A couple of favourites are Rose remarking that she didn€™t pass €œjiggery pokery€ because she €œfailed in hullabaloo€ (from episode €œThe End of the World€), and the Doctor explaining (in €œThe Empty Child€) that mauve is the universal colour for danger - not to be confused with red, which actually means €œcamp€ (€œOh, those misunderstandings€”all those Red Alerts, all that dancing.€) The quick one liners brought lighthearted fun to Doctor Who, and gave a striking contrast between the cheery moments and the occasions of despair. We haven€™t seen a lot of this recently, so it will be interesting to see if Capaldi brings any of this wonderful jovial nonsense back to Who.
