Doctor Who: 10 Superfans Who Landed Starring Roles
10. Mark Gatiss
When you think of Mark Gatiss you might first think of the massively successful, Benedict Cumberbatch starring, Steven Moffat co-wrote, BBC Drama that is Sherlock.
But long before Sherlock in 2005 Mark Gatiss was approached by then show-runner of Doctor Who, Russell T Davies, to pen the third episode of the revival of the show starring Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor alongside Billie Piper as Rose Tyler.
With a number of Doctor Who stories under his belt, Mark Gatiss was able to tell the rest of us Doctor Who fans that he was a fan just like us. But then, Gatiss went the extra step. Instead of standing behind the camera, Gatiss ended up in front of it starring alongside David Tennant's Tenth incarnation of The Doctor in The Lazarus Experiment.
He also guest starred with Peter Capaldi's Twelfth incarnation of the famous Time Lord in Twice Upon A Time which also starred David Bradley, recast as the First Doctor originally played by William Hartnell when the program first began in 1963.
More recently Gatiss has been appearing in Doctor Who audio stories as an alternative incarnation of The Master and an upcoming appearance in a new David Tennant series Dalek Universe.
