One notable aspect about Series 8 - outside of the new, grumpier Doctor and increased reliance on chalkboards - was the sheer number of returning threats contained in just those 12 episodes. Over the course of three months fans got the return of the Daleks, Cybermen and the Master (plus Clockwork Robots, Silurians and Sontarans... sort of). That's the sort of enemies greatest hits list that used to get John Nathan Turner burned in effigy. Interestingly, it didn't feel at the time like they were rolling out the standards to help smooth the transition to the new Doctor (a la Power of the Daleks). The Dalek episode itself was fairly small scale by Dalek standards (no pun intended) and the Master and Cybermen plots were both actually the same plot (which was sort of the point of the story) so they just about got away with it. The moral of the story is, maybe don't start the series by chucking the Weeping Angels into the mix, and instead introduce something new*. Oh, and how about telling us what the heck that thing under the blanket in Listen was all about?! * Yes, Missy has already been confirmed for the opening two parter. Doesn't mean she couldn't have brought new friends.
