Doctor Who: 10 Things We'd Like To See Explored In The Books

5. River Song Meeting The First Nine Doctors

Now that we've established that we'd like to see more of River Song before she became River Song, I would like to point out something that I discovered in researching this article. I spent a lot of time fact-checking my ideas on the TARDIS Wikia and in looking through the "Unchronicled Events" section of the entry on River Song, it points me to a game called The Eternity Clock. In this game, River confirms that she has met the first nine Doctors and there is no memory of her because of mnemosine recall-wipe vapour. (Try saying that ten times fast and then call it "retcon" like the employees of Torchwood.) Well, that was hinted at from the beginning. Professor River Song, Archaeologist, tells the Doctor that she's known all of his faces. She even marvels at how young he is in his Tenth incarnation. I have to admit that "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" intrigued me as episodes, but River Song didn't do much for me. When she showed up in "Flesh and Stone," knowing how to fly the TARDIS and bossing the Doctor around like she knew what was best for everyone, she irritated the hell out of me. I hated that character until the moment that we realized that her name was a mistranslation of her given name, Melody Pond. Then I was just confused. I gave up on hating her the moment that she gave up the rest of her regenerations to save the Doctor. So now that I am a River Song fan, I have many favorite moments of dramatic irony and anticipation. Most interesting to me, however, is this exchange from her death scene: "River Song: If you die here, it will mean I never met you! The Doctor: Time can be rewritten! River Song: Not those times. Not one line. Don't you dare." In "The Wedding of River Song," Dorium comments that River Song is in prison all her days and the Doctor responds, "Her days, yes. Her nights... well... that's between her and me, eh?" We've seen a few of those nights, thanks to the webisodes "Night and the Doctor" and the episode "A Good Man Goes to War." We know that she breaks in and out so often that her guards have a mortal fear of her packing habits. So, here's my list within a list of things that I would like to see: The Doctor/River's wedding anniversary A night in which they get home before they leave and have an adventure keeping it under wraps A night in which River gets locked out A night in which River gets locked in A night when the Doctor "accidentally" gets himself locked in so River can go on a solo adventure A guard who develops the reverse of Stockholm Syndrome and starts helping Doctor Song to escape
