Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Just Didn't Give A F***

6. A Few Harsh Words For Joy

It’s one thing to be a bit careless to your friends without knowing, or deploying your untempered rage on your enemies, but it feels a whole lot harsher seeing the Doctor unleash that sharp tongue on a sad innocent woman who’s already been through enough. A lot of the entries on this list can boil down to “the ends justify the means” and nowhere else is the word “mean” more appropriate than here.

After Fifteen's year with Anita he returns to the Time Hotel to link back up with Joy, who has now been taken over by the briefcase containing the star seed. Which might just be the most Doctor Who sentence ever.

The Doctor springs into action to save her and help her regain her own mind, which sounds a whole lot kinder than what actually follows.

Our kind and thoughtful hero doesn’t give Joy a classic "remember who you are!" speech to snap her back to reality – instead he goes for the "berate her into oblivion" approach, which admittedly does work, but feels a bit overly mean for what was probably required here.

It's not the first time we've seen the Doctor do what they believe is necessary at any cost, but it does stand out because we all knew Fifteen as a much kinder incarnation – that was literally the point of how he was introduced, after all. To be free of his past traumas.

It's yet more proof that, though they may often deploy a softer exterior, the Doctor always has that callous side bubbling underneath.
